LINQ Session 2-2: Selected Workshop “Teacher Competences”

Teacher Competences Fostering Universal Design for Learning and Inclusion

13th of May 2015 (LINQ Conference day 2): 09:30 – 11:00 in Room Heine

Facilitators: Katerina Riviou (Ellinogermaniki Agogi), Nikolaos Oikonomidis (University of Athens), Alan Bruce (ULS)

Description of the interactive Workshop Session:

The workshop will include group working and interactive sessions. After initial presentation, participants will collaborate and finally present the outcomes of their team’s brainstorming/discussions. Methodology will be dynamic using case studies, defined challenges and senarios based on good practice examples.

Set-up of the Workshop Session:

Participants will be informed about inclusive learning strategies that address learning variability by Universal Design for Learning (UDL) methodology. A discussion and brainstorming session will follow where participants in teams will deposit case studies and practices that promote inclusion.

Participants will be invited at the end to become members of a community of practice that will allow them to exchange and share ideas, experiences, concerns and educational resources with fellow teachers across Europe (UDLnet: Universal Design for Learning: A Framework for Addressing Learner Variability Community on ODS Portal).

The session will include presentations followed by practical sessions (brainstorming in groups where a team member will act as facilitator and then present the outcomes of each team’s discussions to the plenary group). Themes of discussion will be:

  1. UDL based learning environments,
  2. UDL resources,
  3. Teachers’ and school leaders’ competences,
  4. Examination of barriers and identification of opportunities.

Finally, participants’ feedback and requirements will be collected and discussed regarding the web inventory of UDL practices.

The workshop will take place in the context of the UDLnet: Universal Design for Learning: A Framework for Addressing Learner Variability (540659-LLP-1-2013-1-GR-COMENIUS-CNW) network.
