High-Level Event on School Education

The High-Level Event on School Education is taking place on the pre-conference day: Monday, 11th of May 2015 from 12:00 to 17:30.

It is organized by Open Discovery Space (ODS) and focuses Open Innovation in Schools.

The title is: “Open Innovation in Schools: Bringing Digital Policy into Practice”

The Digital Agenda for Europe (DAE) and its related programmes are the largest initiatives launched by the European Commission to make Europe benefit from digital technologies. In 2013 the EU also started the Opening Up Education initiative to boost innovation and digital services in schools. The EC is providing extensive support to set up ‘communities of practice’ to develop transnational collaborative and innovative models in education.

Open Discovery Space intends to facilitate the implementation of Action 68 of DAE and to effectively modernise education in Europe, for all subjects and skills.

The ODS High-Level Event on School Education focuses on the long term sustainability of open innovation and digital education in European schools. An exclusive, invitation-only pre-conference and lunch will be held in the morning to promote an in-depth and high-level exchange between policy makers and practitioners.

The ODS event will look into the issues of open innovation and digital education in European schools. Discussion will focus on the alignment between policy and practice to support the implementation of action 68 of the Digital Agenda for Europe as it was realised within the Open Discovery Space flagship project. The high-level speakers will discuss policy implementation and its long-term sustainability at the EU and national level, while teachers innovating in the European school landscape “on the ground” will provide experiences and lessons learned.

Key speakers include, among others:

  • Snežana Marković, Assistant Minister for Secondary Education and Adult Education of the Republic of Serbia
  • Yoomi Renström, Chair of Commission for Social Policy, Education, Employment, Research and Culture, Committee of the Regions
  • Dr Sofoklis Sotiriou, Head of R&D Department, Ellinogermaniki Agogi
